CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team defeated The Citadel by a score of 4-2 on Sunday night at Martin Stadium. Senior Kelsey Yeager scored a pair of first-half goals as the Blue Hose improved to 1-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-1 on the season.
How It Happened
The Citadel's Kate Manzione headed out a corner kick from PC's Preston Robinette in the 4th minute that Morgan Hutchison was able to send into the back of the net with a one-time shot from 20 yards out. It was the sophomore's first collegiate goal.
Yeager would then extend the lead to 2-0 off a free kick in the 9th minute of the game. Her second goal would then come in the 22nd minute off a yet another corner kick from Robinette as the senior aptly tucked the ball past the keeper from 10 yards out to make it 3-0.
Katherine Arroyo would score for the Bulldogs in the 38th minute off assists from Emily Mason and Kooba Richard to make it 3-1 going into the half.
The Citadel started the second half with a surge of energy and were rewarded with a goal from Richard in the 53rd minute from 20 yards out that went off the bottom of crossbar and snuck past the line just before Megan Serrano could grab it to make it 3-2.
The Blue Hose would find an insurance goal off a fast-break by Mallory Hopkins in the 77th minute. The senior was able to find the back of an open net after avoiding a collision with a diving Kelly Brahmbhatt to make it 4-2.
