Blue Hose Sweep Lees-McRae, Fall to Clemson

Clemson, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team split their opening pair of matches for the 2019 season on Sunday. The Blue Hose swept Lees-McRae in the later match, but were defeated by Clemson 4-1 earlier in the afternoon.

Beth Lacey picked up a pair of victories in singles play, as well as one in doubles on the day. Jessica Leeman, Shelly Ray, and Ella Rowley each earned wins in singles and doubles competition. Tracy Johnson and Beth Taylor were victorious in the number 1 and 2 singles slots against Lees-McRae and Sydney Patton won with Leeman in number 1 doubles against the Bobcats.

"Lees-McRae is a much improved team and they are heading in the right direction in their conference," said head coach Steve Brooks. "They are well coached."

"Clemson is a very talented team," continued Brooks. "They have the fall national doubles champions along with some very talented singles players. We fought hard and learned some lessons that hopefully we can use to improve as a team.

"We need to have more confidence and advantage of the deuce points and play them better," concluded Brooks. "It was a great first match for the team."

The Blue Hose will return to action on Saturday, January 26 when they hit the road to take on North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central.
