PC Drops Tight Contest to League-Leading Winthrop

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team fell to conference-leading Winthrop 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 26-24) in Big South action at the Templeton Center on Friday night. PC dips to 11-11 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while the Eagles improve to 16-4 overall and 8-0 in the Big South.
 
Notables
- Sophomore Lauren Talbert tallied 12 kills on a .385 hitting percentage to lead the Blue Hose attack.
- Fellow sophomore Erin Cooke registered her team-leading 13th double-double of the season, notching 11 kills and 16 assists. With her 11 kills, Cooke now has 500 for her career.
- Junior Allie Wright added nine kills and chipped in three blocks.
- Fellow junior Sierra Jones handed out 15 assists and recorded a career-high 15 digs for her third double-double of the year.
- Senior Erin Eulitz recorded a match-high 21 digs, while sophomore Trinity Williams added 12.
 
How it Happened
- After Presbyterian tallied the first point of the night, Winthrop scored the next five for an early 5-1 edge. A 4-0 run got the Blue Hose within a point at 12-11, but the Eagles responded with six of the next seven to stretch the margin to 18-12. Down 24-18, PC ripped off the next six in a row to even the score at 24-24, before Winthrop recovered to take the next two points and the set.
- Winthrop held a 6-3 advantage in the second set, before a pair of 4-0 spurts by the Blue Hose put the hosts on top, 12-9. Tied at 18-18, the Eagles rattled off six in a row and seven of the last eight to go up 2-0 in the match.
- A 6-0 run by the Eagles in the third set put the visitors ahead, 8-4. Presbyterian countered with a six-point spurt of its own to even the set at 12-12. Trailing 22-19, the Blue Hose tallied five of the next six to take a 24-23 edge. Winthrop fended off the set point, then took the next two points as well to seal the set and the match.
