Benson Leads Men's Tennis at Big South Fall Invitational

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College sophomore Max Benson continued his strong play in the fall season, reaching the semifinals in both the main singles and doubles draws at the Big South Fall Invitational over the weekend.
 
"The first Big South Fall Invitational was a great success," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "I'm very proud of everyone who competed this weekend, and the level of competitiveness and sportsmanship that was shown throughout. Congratulations to Longwood and Radford for taking the titles. As for our team, Max continues to improve and represent PC well. I believe his best tennis is still ahead."

- In singles action, Benson won his first three matches in straight sets before falling in the semifinals.
- In doubles, Benson paired with junior Daniel Stenger, and the duo won a pair of contests before a semifinal defeat.
- Sophomore Oscar Alvarez won his first singles match in straight sets before falling in the round of 16.
- Freshman Teo Cariov dropped into the singles back draw after an opening round setback, but bounced back to win his next two matches before a loss in the back draw semifinals.
- Stenger won his round of 16 match in the singles back draw before he was edged in a third-set tiebreaker in the back draw quarterfinals.
- The doubles pairing of Alvarez and Cariov was ousted in the round of 16.
- Longwood's Amadeo Blasco captured the singles title, while the Radford duo of Andres Silva and Demi Taramonlis claimed the doubles title.
