Sophomore Trio Lifts PC Past Spartans

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomores Erin Cooke (23 assists, 13 digs), Lauren Talbert (14 kills, 12 digs) and Trinity Williams (11 kills, 15 digs) each recorded a double-double to help the Presbyterian College volleyball team to a 3-1 win (25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17) over USC Upstate in Big South Conference action on Friday evening. The Blue Hose improve to 13-11 overall and 7-3 in the Big South, while the Spartans drop to 6-16 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
 
Notables
- Talbert led the Blue Hose with her 14 kills while hitting .367 on the night. It was her third double-double of the season.
- Williams recorded her eighth double-double of the season, and fifth in 10 Big South contests. She also equaled her career high with four blocks.
- Cooke's 23 assists were a match high. The sophomore leads Presbyterian with 14 double-doubles for the season. She also tallied eight kills in the contest.
- Junior Allie Wright posted nine kills and added a match-best three service aces.
- Senior Erin Eulitz dug up a match-high 25 balls, her eighth contest this season with 20 or more digs.
- Junior Sierra Jones handed out 16 assists and added five digs.
- The victory snapped a four-match skid for PC against the Spartans.
 
How it Happened
- On top 7-6 in the first set, the Blue Hose rattled off the next four to push their advantage to 11-6. USC Upstate drew within three, but PC put the set beyond reach with an 8-0 run.
- In the second set, Presbyterian used a 6-1 stretch to build a 12-6 lead. Later in the set, a 5-0 run extended the margin to 19-9. With the score 24-13, the Spartans fended off three set points before a kill by freshman Paige Cairns clinched the set for PC.
- The third set was back-and-forth throughout, with each squad putting together multiple spurts of four or more straight points. PC took a late 23-22 edge, but the Spartans took the next three to snatch the set away from the visitors. In all, the third set featured 14 ties and 10 lead changes.
- USC Upstate tallied the first point of the fourth set, but never led again afterwards, as the Blue Hose took the lead at 3-2 and maintained the advantage for the remainder of the set. PC broke open the set with a 6-2 run which made it 19-13, then registered the final five points of the evening to seal the victory.
