Blue Hose Softball Signs Eight

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College and head softball coach David Williams announced the signing of eight student-athletes to the class of 2020. Infielder Jillian Hewes (Simpsonville, S.C.), pitcher/infielder Lauren Hoffman (Troutville, Va.), catcher Addi Lyle (Carrollton, Ga.), outfielder Nyah McNeal (Suffolk, Va.), outfielder Brooke Moody (St. Stephen, S.C.), pitcher Sara Shaw (Buford, Ga.), infielder Kaitlyn Tucker (Oakboro, N.C.) and utility player Bailey Watkins (Easley, S.C.) are set to join the Blue Hose in the fall of 2020.
 
"We are very excited about the addition of these young ladies and what they will bring to our program," said Williams. "There is a good mix of positions and strengths within this group that will further add competition and depth. Each of these young ladies have competed at high levels, which is essential for competing at the college level. We look forward to the contributions they will make to the Blue Hose program in their careers."
 
Jillian Hewes – INF – 5-11 – Simpsonville, S.C. – Mauldin HS
 
High School: Two-time All-Region, Greeneville News All-Upstate First Team and SCCAWS All-State selection … Byrnes Invitational All-Tournament Team … Team Offensive Player of the Year and Best All-Around award recipient … In first three high school seasons, hit .478 with a .545 on-base percentage and collected 98 hits, 11 home runs, 78 runs scored and 30 walks in 70 games … A/B Honor Roll student.
 
Club: Played club for Carolina Elite – Genovese.
 
Personal: Full name is Jillian Mae Hewes … Father, Ron, played baseball at Maine … Sister, Jenna, plays softball at North Greenville … Chose PC because it felt like home, was the perfect size, I loved the campus and the coaches, and the learning environment is perfect … Intends to major in Psychology/Law and wants to become a forensic psychologist in the FBI.
 
Lauren Hoffman – INF/P – 5-7 – Troutville, Va. – Lord Botetourt HS
 
High School: Four-year varsity player ... Two-time Blue Ridge District 1 First Team first baseman and Second Team pitcher selection … All-Region First Team and All-State Second Team selection at first base … Team won the district as well as the district tournament her first three seasons (2017-19) … Batted .400 or better in both sophomore and junior seasons … NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete … Owns a 4.12 GPA … Four-year A/B Honor Roll student … Four-time Academic Excellence Award winner … Member of the National Honor Society, French Club, Air and Space Club, Future Business Leaders of America Club and the yearbook staff ... Also member of the local 4-H Shooting Education Club.

Personal: Lauren Elizabeth Hoffman was born in Roanoke, Va., to John and Karen Hoffman … Chose PC because I wanted a small school where I could excel academically but also play competitive Division I softball and PC is perfect for both … Intends to major in Biology or Business Administration.
 
Addi Lyle – C – 5-4 – Carrollton, Ga. – Central HS
 
High School: Two-time First Team All-Region selection … Team reached the Elite Eight and won a Region Championship in 2019 … Reached the Sweet 16 and was region runner-up in 2017 and 2018 … Won the state championship and was region runner-up in 2016 … 2017 Lion Award recipient … In high school career, owns a .353 batting average, .433 on-base percentage, 91 hits, 15 doubles, 9 homers, 68 RBIs, 26 walks and a .959 fielding percentage … Honor Roll student … Member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honors Society and FCA … Tutored elementary school children in Spanish.

Nyah McNeal – OF – 5-7 – Suffolk, Va. – Nansemond River HS
 
High School: Named a First Team All-Conference outfielder and Second Team All-Conference utility player in 2017 … Also won Rookie of the Year … Earned a Coaches Award in 2018.
 
Club: Has played club softball since 2011, most recently for Orion Hunter Elite.
 
Personal: Nyah Lee McNeal was born in San Diego, Calif. … Chose PC because of the beautiful campus and the family atmosphere you feel as soon as you walk on campus.
 
Brooke Moody – OF – 5-3 – St. Stephen, S.C. – Timberland HS
 
High School: All-State and two-time All-Region selection … Won District and Region Championships in 2019 … Team Defensive MVP in 2019 and Offensive MVP in 2017 … In 2019, hit .680 and stole 28 bases … Member of the A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, NSHSS, Duke T.I.P., FCA and Drama Club … Served as manager for the volleyball and cross country teams.
 
Personal: Ashlynn Brooke Moody was born in Summerville, S.C., to Rhett and Rhonda Moody … Chose PC because it's absolutely beautiful, I love the campus, the coaching staff made me feel so welcome and I come from a small town and PC being a small school just fits me … Intends to major in Physical Therapy and wants to work with athletes to help them get better and do their best.
 
Sara Shaw – P – 5-7 – Buford, Ga. – Mill Creek HS
 
High School: Reached Sweet 16 of the state tournament as a senior and was named Gwinnett Diamond Club Player of the Month in September … First Team All-County selection as a junior … Team won a Region Championship and was the state runner-up … Won the Hawks MVP Award as a sophomore … Has won 34 of 66 career starts in the circle … Owns a career 2.69 ERA, 2.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and .957 fielding percentage.

Personal: Sara Elizabeth Shaw was born in Lawrenceville, Ga., to Joe and Laura Shaw … Chose PC because it checked multiple boxes that I was looking for in a college; small school, small town, competitive athletics and I fell in love with the coaches, campus and Clinton … Intends to major in Sports Psychology or Business.
 
Kaitlyn Tucker – INF – 5-4 – Oakboro, N.C. – South Stanly HS
 
High School: Through three years at South Stanly, owns a .534 batting average and .611 on-base percentage with 125 hits, 70 RBIs and 112 runs scored … Three-time All-Conference, All-County and All-State Selection … Two-time District 6 Player of the Year (2018-19) … Named Second Team All-Region as a sophomore (2018) … Selected to the All-District Team as a freshman … Named team's Offensive Player of the Year three times … Owns a 4.5 GPA and ranks in the top-10 of her class … Selected as an Academic All-American … Member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society.

High School: Batted .578 with 16 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs as a junior in 2019 … Selected to the All-Region Team … Also a member of the varsity golf team … Was a member of the Student Council, Beta Club, Interact Club and Junior Leadership Pickens County … Served as student body President … Attended Palmetto Girls State.
