Blue Hose Basketball Defeats Cougars 58-54 on Friday

Clinton, S.C. - Trinity Johnson knocked down a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining to seal a 58-54 win for the Presbyterian College women's basketball team over College of Charleston on Friday at the Templeton Center. Johnson led the Blue Hose with a game-high 17 points, followed closely by Bria Gibbs' season-high 15 points while Kacie Hall added a collegiate-best 10 rebounds. The Cougars were led by Tyler Collins' 13 points and Deja Ford's 10 points.

Scoring The Game
Jade Compton capped a 5-0 run with a three-pointer to give PC a 21-12 lead and force a timeout from College of Charleston at 7:59 in the second quarter. After trading baskets, the Cougars went on a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 31-26 lead before a free throw from Compton gave the halftime score of 31-27.

Presbyterian opened the third on a 10-0 run, taking the lead on a jumper from Gibbs at 7:36. The Blue Hose shot 61.5 percent (8-13) in the quarter to outscore the Cougars 18-7 and take a seven point lead after a three from Riley Hemm made it 43-36 with 1:32 remaining in the third.

The Cougars hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to tighten the game including a pair from Collins in the game's final 90 seconds. With the lead cut to just two points, 56-54, Johnson hit a pair of free throws to seal the 58-54 victory for PC.

Trinity Johnson tied her season-best and led the team in scoring for the third time this season with 17 points to go with four assists and a perfect 8-of-8 clip from the free throw line. Bria Gibbs had season-best totals in points (15) and rebounds (5). Kacie Hall doubled her season total with a game-high and collegiate-best 10 rebounds, all defensive.

- Today's game was an "Education Game" played in front of a couple hundred local middle school and elementary school students.
- Freshman Tionna Carter recorded her team-leading sixth block of the season and has blocked at least one shot in 4-of-5 games this season.
- Jade Compton scored six points to go with a season-best seven rebounds.
- Presbyterian sank a season high 15 free throws and has yet to allow +10 free throws by an opponent this season, as Charleston connected on just 8-11 (.727).
