Johnson Leads PC in Loss to Terriers

Spartanburg, S.C. - Trinity Johnson scored a season-high 21 points as the Presbyterian College women's basketball team fell to Wofford 67-60 on Tuesday night at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The Terriers had four players finish in double digits with Chloe Wanink scoring 19 points and Jamari McDavid recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Scoring The Game
Both teams started hot from distance, combining for 14 made threes in a first half that saw four lead changes and three ties. Johnson and Tess Santos each sank three three-pointers in the first quarter as the duo combined to score 20 points and gave PC a one-point lead, 20-19.

In the second quarter, the Terriers took a 24-20 lead after a layup from Alexis Tomlin and three from Wanink with 8:58 to go. Presbyterian responded with a 9-0 run, capped by a three from Riley Hemm at 6:03, to take a 29-24 lead. After trading baskets, the Blue Hose led 36-29 at halftime.

Wofford opened the third quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 43-38 lead after a layup from McDavid at 5:12. Johnson and Jade Compton sparked a 9-5 run for PC to end the quarter as the Blue Hose fought back to trail by one, 48-47, with ten minutes to play.

PC regained the lead, 52-51, on a layup from Tionna Carter at 5:34. However, Wofford replied with a 11-2 run and baskets from McDavid, Hatton and Da'Ja Green to hold a 63-55 lead with 1:48 remaining and force fouls from PC. The Terriers sank their free throws and held on for the 67-60 win.

Players of the Game
Wofford's Chloe Wanink scored 16 points of her 19 points in the first half on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting, while Jamari McDavid had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Trinity Johnson scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Blue Hose.

Notables 
- Presbyterian sank nine threes in the first half and ended the game with a season-best 11 made threes. 
- Presbyterian did not allow a free throw attempt in the first half and held Wofford to just 4-7 (.571) shooting from the foul line.
- Kacie Hall tied her collegiate-best with six assists, all of which came in the first half.
- Tionna Carter led all players with 11 rebounds, while Jade Compton added 10 boards. Both marks were collegiate-bests, and it was the first time in over a calendar year (11/20/18) that PC had a pair of players finish with double-digit rebounds.

By the Numbers
Presbyterian College shot .563 (9-16) from distance in the first half but just 2-11 (.181) in the second half to end the game at 40.7 percent (11-27) compared to Wofford's 60 percent (9-15). The Blue Hose held a slight advantage in rebounds, 31-30, but the Terriers saw a big 19-4 lead in points off turnovers and 26-20 lead with points in the paint.
