Johnson Leads PC to 70-49 Win in Season Opener at SC State

Orangeburg, S.C. - Trinity Johnson had a game-high 17 points to go with four assists and four steals to lead the Presbyterian College women's basketball team to a 70-49 win over SC State in the season opener on Tuesday evening at SHM Memorial Center. Dejah Williford-Kelley led the Bulldogs with 11 points and six rebounds.

Scoring the Game
Presbyterian built a 17-9 lead in the first quarter helped by 5-6 (.833) shooting from the charity stripe compared to an 0-8 (.000) start for SC State. The Bulldogs recovered some in the second, sinking 4-7 (.571) free throws and cutting the lead to just six, 32-26, at the break.

With the lead cut to just four, 34-30 and 4:48 remaining in the third, Presbyterian went on an 11-4 run over the next three minutes to restore the lead back to double-digits, 45-34, following an Alessia Capley basket. After trading baskets, the score was 47-37 in favor of PC after three quarters.

Presbyterian closed out the game out with 23 fourth quarter points to win 70-49.

Trinity Johnson led all scorers with 17 points, while Bria Gibbs (14 points, four rebounds) and Jade Compton (11 points, five rebounds) also finished in double figures for PC.

By the Numbers
Presbyterian shot 27-42 (.643) from the field and was 4-8 (.500) from behind the arc compared to 18-54 (.333) and 3-17 (.176) for SC State. The Blue Hose led in rebounds, 36-29, while turnovers were tied at 23 apiece.
