Blue Hose Rally Falls Short at Radford

Radford, Va. - Despite a game-high 15 points and career-best six steals from Trinity Johnson, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team fell to Radford, 52-42, on Tuesday afternoon at the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders pulled away with a 12-3 run in the fourth quarter aided by eight free throws. Radford was led by Amele Ngwafang's 14 points and nine rebounds, while PC's Tionna Carter also nearly secured a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Scoring The Game
Johnson scored the first two baskets of the game, giving PC an early 4-0 lead with 7:25 on the clock. Radford countered with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes, taking a 9-4 lead after a three pointer from Khiana Johnson at 3:43. The Highlanders led 10-6 after one quarter.

Radford extended their lead to seven points, 17-10, following a layup from Sidney Nunley at 4:13 in the second. Presbyterian then surged back with an 8-0 run, with five points coming from Carter, to hold an 18-17 lead with 1:17 to play. Jen Falconer hit a three pointer right before half to give Radford a 20-18 lead.

Kacie Hall tied the game at 20-20 with a layup at 8:26 in the third. It would stay a one-possession game up until a 5-0 run by Radford at the end of the quarter, which gave the Highlanders a 33-29 lead.

Johnson hit a clutch three with 3:09 to play, and Jade Compton made it a one-possession game, 42-39, with a free throw at 2:39. However, Radford was able to weather the storm and outscore PC 12-3 down the stretch, connecting on eight free throws and fending off a late rally.

Trinity Johnson scored a game-high 15 points and secured a career-best six steals to lead PC, while Amele Ngwafang led Radford with 14 points and nine rebounds. In only her second collegiate-start, PC's Tionna Carter nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Notables
- Radford's Khiana Johnson also scored 14 points and connected on 3-5 (.600) from three.
- Presbyterian tied their season-high with four blocks, with Tess Santos and Tionna Carter each recording two.
- Trinity Johnson's previous best was five steals against Illinois earlier this season (11/30/19). Her six steal performance ties for fourth in PC's Division I era with the record being seven steals (three times).
- Georgia Stockton played a season-high 24 minutes and recorded a collegiate-best six rebounds.
- Bria Gibbs went 1-2 from distance to record her first collegiate three-pointer.

By the Numbers
Radford led in rebounds, 47-31, and connected on 17-44 (.386) shooting compared to just 16-58 (.276) for Presbyterian. The Blue Hose won the turnover battle, 12-22, but the teams each scored 12 points off those turnovers. PC collected 13 steals, aided by six from Johnson, while Radford had just 4 steals.
