Longwood Pulls Away Late to Spoil Blue Hose Rally

Clinton, S.C. - Longwood's Dayna Rouse scored seven of her 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Lancers held off the Presbyterian College women's basketball team, 71-60, at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon. Jade Compton recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Blue Hose.

Scoring The Game
Longwood used an early 6-0 run to build a 13-6 lead following a layup from Robertson at 4:50 in the first. Bria Gibbs answered with a 5-0 run of her own to cut the lead back to just two points, 13-11, with 3:43 on the clock. The Lancers replied with another 6-0 run and eventually led by eight, 21-13, after one quarter.

Presbyterian College took over the second quarter and held Longwood to just six points on two baskets and a pair of free throws. The Blue Hose scored 20 points with a balanced offense as Gibbs, Compton and Kacie Hall each scored five points. Tess Santos hit a three pointer, and Le'Mesha Madden sank a pair of free throws to give PC a 33-27 lead at halftime.

Akila Smith stole the ball and fed Ann-Hamilton Leroy who sank a fastbreak layup to tie the game at 39-39 with 4:38 to play in the third. That play sparked an 8-0 from the visitors that they would not relinquish. Longwood led by six, 53-47, headed into the fourth.

PC opened the fourth with a 4-0 run behind a layup from Compton and pair of free throws from Tionna Carter to make it a one-possession game, 53-51, with 8:29 to play. After a three-point play from Rouse, Hall hit her second three pointer of the game to cut the deficit back to two, 56-54, with 6:32 remaining. However, Longwood sank eight free throws to end the game and hold on for the 71-60 victory.

Jade Compton had a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds to go with three assists, while Longwood's Dayna Rouse had 20 points on 8-12 (.750) shooting from the floor.

- Jade Compton's double-double (21 points, 12 rebounds) was the team's first of the season.

The Blue Hose made up the difference going 5-16 (31%) from distance compared to the Lancers' 1-12 (8%). Rebounds were tied at 38 apiece. Longwood turned 27 PC turnovers into 33 points, while PC scored 13 points off 13 turnovers by the visitors.
