Capley Leads PC in Home Loss to Hampton

Clinton, S.C. - Three Hampton players finished in double-figures as the Presbyterian College women's basketball team fell 71-42 on Monday night at the Templeton Center. The Pirates' Nylah Young scored a game-high 21 points to go with 11 rebounds, while Alessia Capley scored a collegiate-best 15 points and blocked three shots to lead PC.

Scoring The Game
Presbyterian College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with layups from Jade Compton and Tionna Carter. Hampton replied with a 5-0 run, capped by a layup from Ashley Bates at 6:55, to take a slim lead. Carter answered on the other end just 13 seconds later to regain the lead for PC, 6-5. The Pirates then ended the quarter with a 10-2 run and led 15-8 after ten minutes.

Kacie Hall sank a three with 8:12 in the second to cut the deficit to six points, 17-11, but Laren VanArsdale countered with a three for Hampton on their next possession. The Pirates closed the quarter on a 10-1 run to lead 30-14 at halftime. After 20 minutes, Hampton was shooting 13-29 (.45) while PC was 5-20 (.250).

Capley scored seven points in the third quarter, including a three-pointer at 3:31, cutting Hampton's lead to 43-24. However, the Pirates stayed hot offensively, connecting on three three-pointers down the stretch, and led 55-30 headed into the fourth quarter.

Presbyterian had a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter with baskets from Trinity Johnson, Capley and Compton, to cut the deficit back to 23 points, 64-41, with 2:31 to play. Hampton ended the game on a 7-1 run to win 71-42.

Nylah Young recorded a double-double for Hampton with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Hampton shot 25-53 (47%) from the floor compared to PC's 14-38 (37%). The Pirates scored 28 points off 25 PC turnovers, compared to the Blue Hose scoring seven points off 14 Pirate turnovers. Hampton led in rebounds, 34-21, steals, 12-4, and points in the paint, 34-20.
