Winthrop Rally Ruins Hall's Offensive Outburst

Rock Hill, S.C. - Winthrop used a pair of 12-0 runs in the second half to erase a double-digit deficit and escape with a 61-54 win over the Presbyterian College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. Jah'Che Whitfield scored 17 points to lead the Eagles, while Kacie Hall led the Blue Hose with a game-high 21 points, including five three pointers.

Scoring The Game
Hall hit a pair of early threes as the Blue Hose took an 8-3 lead at 6:07. Winthrop then went on a 6-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 9-8 lead on a pair of free throws from Maleeah Langstaff. Presbyterian was able to close the first on a 9-1 run and led 17-10 after ten minutes.

After trading threes, Sydney Buckley hit another from distance to cut Winthrop's deficit back to four points, 20-16, with 7:00 to play. Presbyterian answered with a 9-0 run, capped by jumpers from Jade Compton and Le'Mesha Madden, to take a 29-16 lead at 3:38. Hall sank her fifth three of the game as time expired and gave PC a 36-24 halftime lead.

Trinity Johnson sank a layup at 8:47 to give PC a 17-point lead, 41-24, with 8:47 to go in the third. Winthrop heated up with a 12-0 run fueled by back-to-back threes and five different players contributing baskets as PC's lead dwindled to just five points, 41-36, with 3:49 to play. Hall sank her final baskets over the next minutes as PC recovered and led 48-41 with one quarter remaining.

Winthrop took a three-point lead, 53-50, following a 12-2 run to start the fourth quarter. The Eagles again had five different players contribute points over the run. Tionna Carter broke a PC scoring drought of nearly five minutes with a layup at 4:27 to cut the Eagle lead back to one point, 53-52. A three from Whitfield with thirty seconds remaining was the final dagger, as Winthrop held on to win by seven, 61-54.

Players of the Game
Jah'Che Whitfield led Winthrop with 17 points including eight points in the crucial fourth quarter rally. She was 6-8 (.750) from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from distance. Kacie Hall hit five three pointers in the first half and scored a game-high 21 points for PC.
