Radford, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Radford on Saturday afternoon. The win moves PC to 11-5 overall, 4-1 against Big South competition. This 7-0 win is the fourth of the season for the Blue Hose.
“The team had to battle the elements, it was cold and there was a consistent 15 mph win, and a tough opponent today in Radford,” said head coach Steve Brooks.
Each of the three doubles matches came down to a tibreaker. Sydney Patton and Tracy Johnson won their match first on court one. After suffering a loss on court two, all eyes moved to court three. Beth Taylor and Katie Thompson were able to clinch the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) win. Each of the three doubles matches finished with that exact score.
The Blue Hose did not drop a single singles match. Straight-set wins by Patton, Taylor, and Samantha Calais secured the match victory for the Blue Hose. Jessica Leeman also defeated her opponent in only a pair of sets, but needed a tiebreaker in the second set to earn the win. Johnson and Thompson split their first pair of sets but both wound up taking the third set by a score of 10-8.
“Everyone had tough matches and fought hard today,” continued Brooks. “With a result like this, the team couldn't be much happier.”
