Blue Hose Fall at Charlotte in Season Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the 2020 season.

COACH RINCON ON THE MATCH
"Charlotte got ahead of us early in doubles and that secured the point for them," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "In singles, we played a very competitive match and only missed a few opportunities that ended up hurting us. Overall, we played a solid match and represented PC with heart and determination."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 49ers earned a pair of 6-3 victories at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles action.
- Charlotte grabbed a 2-0 edge with a victory at No. 4 singles, before Daniel Stenger picked up Presbyterian's first win of the day, a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles.
- The hosts claimed victory at No. 3 and No. 5 singles to stretch their lead to 4-1, clinching the match.
- After dropping the first set, Max Benson rallied to pick up PC's second point, a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
- The final point went the way of Charlotte, who took a three-set win at No. 6 singles after a lengthy tiebreaker.

 
NOTABLES
- In his collegiate debut, PC freshman Teo Cariov partnered with senior Jaime Castillo-Lopez at No. 2 doubles. The match was stopped after Charlotte secured the doubles' point. At No. 6 singles, Cariov took his opponent, Collin Thomson, deep into a third-set tiebreaker before falling 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 7-5 (12-10).
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose continue their season-opening four-match road trip on Monday afternoon as they visit Samford. The contest is slated to begin at 1 pm.
