Asheville Pulls Away Late to Down Blue Hose

Clinton, S.C. – Sonora Dengokl scored a game-high 19 points to pace four Bulldogs who finished in double-digits as the UNC Asheville women's basketball team defeated Presbyterian College, 64-48, on Tuesday night at the Templeton Center. Trinity Johnson scored 15 points to lead the Blue Hose.

Scoring The Game
Jade Compton scored back-to-back baskets to give Presbyterian an early 5-2 lead over the visiting Bulldogs with 7:32 on the clock. Brooke Jordan-Brown scored seven points in a 13-6 run that saw UNC Asheville leading 15-11 after ten minutes.

Kacie Hall sank an open three to break a three-minute scoreless drought and keep it a two-possession game, 20-14, at 6:53 in the second. The Bulldogs would then stretch the lead to 10 points twice, but Trinity Johnson beat the buzzer with a layup to reach a halftime deficit of 28-20.

Bria Gibbs and Comton hit threes in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but Asheville grew their lead to as many as 18 points, 46-28, following a three from Zip Scott with 4:22 to play. The Blue Hose closed the quarter on an 8-3 run with four different players sinking jumpers to cut their deficit to 13, 49-36.

UNC Asheville continued to score in runs in the fourth and grew the lead to as many as 22 following a jumper from Dengokl that made it 60-38, 6:32 to play. Presbyterian refused to go away without a fight, as Johnson and Compton both hit late threes. Neither team scored over the final 2:03 of the game, as the Bulldogs picked up the 64-48 victory.

Brooke Jordan-Brown had a double-double for UNC Asheville with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

- Trinity Johnson finished in double-figures (15 points) for the 20th time this season and ninth consecutive game.
- Jade Compton pulled down a team-high seven boards to go with 13 points as the junior led the Blue Hose in rebounds for the ninth time this season.
- Presbyterian attempted a season-low four free throws, sinking a season-low two.

The teams shot nearly identical as UNC Asheville sank 42% (25-60) from the floor and 41% (7-17) from distance, while Presbyterian connected on 40% (20-50) and 40% (6-15). The Bulldogs sank 7-of-10 free throws, while the Blue Hose sank 2-of-4. The deciding factor was UNC Asheville scoring 27 points off 19 turnovers compared to just 13 points off 13 turnovers for PC.
