Five-Run Seventh Leads Fighting Irish To Win

Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome a five-run seventh from the visiting Fighting Irish as Notre Dame earned a 13-5 win on Friday at the PC Baseball Complex.

NOTABLES
- Garrett Jones and Kyle Merkle paced the Blue Hose offense with two hits apiece in the contest.
- It was Merkle's second multi-hit game and his team-leading second multi-RBI game on the year and Jones added his first multiple-hit game on the season.
- In the ninth, Tannor Byrd connected on his first home run of the season.
- With his four strikeouts, Eric Miles moved into fourth place in the Blue Hose D1 record book for strikeouts in his career with 189 punchouts.
- Kyle Decker, Jeremiah Boyd, Merkle, and Jones all had doubles on Friday giving PC a season-high four doubles in a game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Notre Dame opened the scoring in the fourth with a pair of runs off of an RBI single and sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 edge.
- In the fifth, PC responded with an RBI single from Jimmy Marcelli, followed up by a two-run single from Merkle to give PC the 3-2 advantage. 
- The Fighting Irish answered in the seventh with five runs in the frame, including a three-run home run to take a 7-3 lead.
- Jones, in the home half of the seventh, responded with an RBI double down the left-field line to cut the Notre Dame lead to 7-4.
- The guests added four in the eighth and a pair of runs in the ninth on a two-run homer to push the advantage to 13-4.
- PC added a run in the bottom half of the ninth on a solo homer from Tannor Byrd, but Notre Dame picked up the 13-5 victory on Friday.
