Softball Begins 2020 Season with Blue Hose Invitational

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team begins its 2020 season this weekend as it hosts the Blue Hose Invitational from Friday through Sunday at the PC Softball Complex against Robert Morris, Norfolk State and South Carolina State.

"We're excited for the start of the 2020 season," said head coach David Williams. "We feel our schedule has a lot of different opponents, as we play through some early season tournaments, that will help prepare us for conference play."

Presbyterian brings back 12 players from last year's 11-40-2 squad. Among the returners is Kiley Kross, who paced the Blue Hose with 25 RBIs last season and was selected to the Big South All-Freshman Team. Also back among regular starters are Courtney White, Macy Hyatt and Madison DeGennaro. White hit .297 in 2019, and led PC with 12 doubles. She also logged 41.1 innings in the circle and notched two saves. Presbyterian returns two other pitchers from a year ago in Taylor Ward (112.0 IP) and Sarah Ramsbottom (36.2 IP).

The Blue Hose also bring nine newcomers into the fold, with five freshmen and four JUCO transfers added to the mix. Outfielders Alexis Meadows and Hunter Meadows, as well as infielder Lexi Palazzo, earned All-NJCAA Region 17 selections last season, while lefty Haley Haselden was voted the NJCAA Region X Pitcher of the Year at USC Salkehatchie.

"We have a lot of youth on our roster this year, mixed with veteran players, which gives us a lot of energy and excitement," said Williams. "The 2020 version of our team hopes to excel in every facet of the game, as we have improved our overall game."

NOTABLES
- This weekend will be the first time PC has faced Robert Morris and Norfolk State in its Division I era (2008-present).
- The Blue Hose own a 12-1 mark against SC State, including a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Bulldogs last season in Orangeburg.
