Compton Scores 32 as PC Defeats Longwood in Overtime

Set DI program record with 32 points in exciting win

Farmville, Va. – Jade Compton scored a program record 32 points to go with 10 rebounds as the Presbyterian College women's basketball team defeated Longwood, 82-77, in overtime on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kyla McMakin sank six three-pointers and led the Lancers with a game-high 36 points. Trinity Johnson added 19 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for PC to record her first collegiate double-double.

Scoring The Game
After trailing for nearly the entire game, Longwood scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including eight from McMakin, to take a 64-61 lead with 32 seconds remaining. As she did all day, Compton stepped up for PC with a big three to tie the game, 64-64, with 23 seconds left to play and force overtime.

Presbyterian scored the first nine points of overtime, with seven coming on free throws, to take a 73-64 lead with 2:57 to play in the extra period. After trading baskets, PC led by as many as 11 points, 79-68, with just 43 seconds remaining. Longwood refused to go away quietly, sinking three three-pointers in 22 seconds of game-time to cut the lead back to just three, 80-77, with 16 seconds left. McMakin sank two of the treys to reach six for the game. With the Lancers forced to continue fouling, the Blue Hose added late free throws from Johnson and Kacie Hall to seal the 82-77 win.

Jade Compton recorded her third double-double of the season with a collegiate-best 32 points and 10 rebounds, while Kyla McMakin led the Lancers with a game-high 36 points.

- Jade Compton scored 32 points to set a DI program record and surpass the old mark of 30 set by Cortney Storey, Kacie Hall and Trinity Johnson.
- Compton sank a program-best 12 field goals while her 21 attempts tied for second-most in program history.
- Trinity Johnson recorded her first collegiate double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while playing a collegiate-high 45 minutes.
- Jade Compton (32 pts, 10 rbs) and Trinity Johnson (19 pts, 10 rbs) were the first pair of PC players to have double-doubles in the same game since Bria Gibbs (23 pts, 13 rbs) and Salina Virola (14 pts, 12 rbs) did so against SC State on November 20, 2018.
- Longwood led for just 46 seconds of the game compared to 42:05 for PC.
- It was PC's first overtime win since a 72-63 OT win vs UNC Asheville on February 27, 2018.

Stats of the Game
The two teams shot nearly identically with Longwood sinking 49.2% (30-61) from the field and 33.3% (8-24) from distance, while Presbyterian shot 43.9% (23-57) from the field and 31.6% (6-19) from behind the arc. The Blue Hose held a huge advantage on free throws, sinking a season-best 26-34 (76.5) compared to just 9-10 (.900) for the Lancers.

Presbyterian returns home to host UNC Asheville on Tuesday, February 11, at 6 pm on ESPN+. It will be the first game in a three-game homestand for the Blue Hose.
