PC Rally Spoiled by Camels Buzzer-Beater

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team erased an eight-point second half deficit, but was clipped by Campbell, 62-61, on a Shy Tuelle basket as time expired on Friday evening. Jade Compton registered her second straight double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for the Blue Hose.

Scoring the Game
 
Campbell came out of the gates fast, as the visitors opened the contest with a 10-0 run. Presbyterian scored the next seven points as part of a 13-4 stretch to get the margin to one, 14-13, with 1:36 to go in the first quarter. PC's answer included seven points from Compton and six points from Shamani Stafford. The Camels netted the final six of the quarter and held a 20-13 edge after one.
 
Down 25-19 near the midway point of the second quarter, the Blue Hose used an 8-2 spurt to even the contest at 27-27. During the stretch, PC kept Campbell off of the scoreboard for over four minutes. The Camels nudged back in front just prior to halftime, and led 32-31 at the break.
 
After trading buckets early in the third quarter, Maleia Bracone canned a three-pointer at the 6:23 mark to put Presbyterian on top for the first time, 37-36. PC got the advantage to two points briefly, but the Camels countered with a 9-2 stretch to wrestle the lead back from the Blue Hose, 45-40, with 2:55 remaining in the period. Campbell increased the margin to as high as eight, 50-42, and was in front 50-44 after three quarters.
 
Presbyterian answered with a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter, tying the game on a Trinity Johnson three-pointer and going back on top, 57-55, on a pair of Tionna Carter free throws. With the game all square at 57-57, Johnson drove to the hoop and scored to put the Blue Hose back up with 1:06 remaining.
 
Campbell answered with a three-pointer with 21 seconds left, giving the visitors a 60-59 edge. On the ensuing possession, Johnson rebounded her own miss and put it in for a 61-60 Blue Hose lead with 1.6 seconds remaining. After receiving the inbounds pass, Lauren McNamara-Clement found a cutting Tuelle, who got a shot off just before the horn sounded to give the Camels the victory.
 
Players of the Game
Compton shot 7-of-11 from the field, including making both of her triple tries. The senior's 17 points and 13 rebounds were both game highs. Johnson (11), Bracone (10) and Nyah Willis (10) also scored in double-figures for PC. Taya Bolden led Campbell with 16 points.
 
Stats of the Game
As a team, the Blue Hose made a season-best 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. The Camels shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field and 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from downtown.
 
Presbyterian won the rebounding battle, outdueling Campbell on the glass 33-24. PC also had a slight 36-34 edge in points in the paint.
 
Notables
- Compton's double-double (17 points, 13 rebounds) was her second in a row and team-leading third of the season.
- Johnson scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half during the Blue Hose rally. The junior led Presbyterian with four assists for the evening.
- Bracone's ten points gave her double-digits in three of the last four games.
