Blue Hose Clipped in Final Seconds by Campbell

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team rallied back from a double-digit deficit in the second half, but for the second consecutive day was edged in the final seconds, 59-58, by Campbell on Saturday afternoon. Jade Compton led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Hose.

Scoring the Game
 
Nyah Willis hit a pair of triples in the opening few minutes as Presbyterian grabbed an early 8-6 edge. The Camels nudged in front at the end of the first quarter, 12-10.
 
Campbell maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. The visitors opened up their largest advantage of the half, 29-22, in the closing moments, and took that margin into the locker room.
 
The Camels picked up the first bucket of the third quarter to briefly stretch the lead to nine, but PC answered with seven in a row to get back to within two, 31-29. Campbell responded by netting the next nine straight points to extend the margin into double-digits, 40-29. The Blue Hose closed the quarter with a 10-2 stretch to cut the deficit to 44-41 heading into the final period.
 
PC's run continued into the fourth quarter, as a Maleia Bracone layup and Willis free throw evened the score at 44-44. The Blue Hose held a one-point edge on a pair of occasions, but a 7-0 Campbell run just past the midway point of the quarter put the visitors back on top, 58-52.
 
Once again the Blue Hose answered, getting within one, 58-57, on a pair of Bracone free throws with just over a minute remaining. In the final seconds, a pair of offensive rebounds kept PC's chances alive, and eventually Compton tied the game from the free throw line with 1.9 seconds remaining. On the other end, Shy Tuelle was able to get to the free throw line, and knocked one down to give the visitors a one-point victory for the second straight day.

Compton led the Blue Hose in points and rebounding for the second straight day, netting a game-high 19 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Bracone (14) and Willis (13) joined Compton in double-figures for PC. Taya Bolden led the Camels with 18 points.
 
Stats of the Game
Presbyterian connected on 19-of-53 (35.8 percent) from the floor, and knocked down a season-high eight three-pointers on 19 attempts (42.1 percent). The Camels shot 22-of-48 (45.8 percent) from the field, and were held to 3-of-15 (20.0 percent) from downtown.
 
The Blue Hose won the rebounding battle handily, besting Campbell 37-27 on the glass. Presbyterian has had the edge in rebounding in 10 of its 12 games this season, including nine of 10 Big South contests.
 
Notables
- Compton's 19 points marked her fifth straight game scoring in double-figures, a new career-best. The senior came within one rebound of her third consecutive double-double.
- Bracone netted 14 points to register her third straight double-digit scoring game, the longest streak of her career. The freshman also snagged a career-best six rebounds.
- Willis scored 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 4-of-5 from downtown, to come within one point of equaling her career high. The four three-pointers were a new career-high for the sophomore transfer.
- Senior Tess Santos played in her 100th career game as a Blue Hose on Saturday.
