Blue Hose Drop Series Opener to Panthers

CLINTON, S.C. – High Point knocked down 19 three-pointers on its way to handing Presbyterian College a 75-52 defeat in the opening game of the teams' Big South Conference series on Friday evening. Jade Compton led the Blue Hose with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Scoring the Game
 
PC jumped out to a quick 4-0 advantage, but the visitors responded with an 11-2 stretch to take an 11-6 lead with 4:48 left in the opening period. The Panthers held a 14-10 edge at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Blue Hose got within two on a couple of occasions in the second quarter, including on a Tess Santos layup at the 1:42 mark, which made it 24-22. High Point then connected on a trio of three-pointers to close out the half on a 9-0 run, stretching the lead to double-digits heading into halftime, 33-22.
 
In the third quarter, HPU used 9-0 and 10-0 spurts to extend the margin to 57-30 just before the end of the period. Six straight points midway through the fourth quarter got Presbyterian to within 62-45, but the Blue Hose could not draw any closer.
 
Players of the Game
Compton led the Blue Hose in points and rebounds for the third straight game, scoring 14 points and collecting eight rebounds. Trinity Johnson and Santos chipped in 10 points apiece, with Johnson handing out a team-best six assists. Skyler Curran paced the Panthers with a game-high 25 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jenson Edwards added 19 points for HPU.
 
Stats of the Game
Presbyterian shot 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the floor, while High Point made 39.1 percent (27-of-69) from the field, including 40.4 percent (19-of-47) from beyond the arc. The Blue Hose made 17-of-24 (70.8 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Panthers made both of their free throw attempts.
 
Notables
- Compton paced the Blue Hose with her 14 points and eight rebounds, leading Presbyterian in both categories for the third consecutive game. The senior has scored in double-figures in a career-best six straight contests.
- With their double-digit scoring nights, Compton and Johnson tied Tionna Carter for the team lead with eight double-digit scoring games this season.
