Hot-Shooting Panthers Knock Off Blue Hose

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point shot 50.9 percent from the floor on its way to an 81-57 win over Presbyterian College on Sunday afternoon. Winston Hill led the Blue Hose with 16 points and six rebounds.

Scoring the Game
 
The Panthers tallied the first four points of the afternoon on their way to an 8-3 start in the opening four minutes. PC got back within two, 8-6, on a Hill layup, but an 11-4 stretch got HPU's advantage to 19-10 with 12:28 on the clock. Ambaka Le Gregam halted the run with a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 19-13 near the midway point of the half.
 
A 7-2 High Point spurt pushed the hosts' lead into double-digits for the first time, 28-17, with 7:25 remaining in the period. Following another Le Gregam triple, the Panthers netted nine in a row, building the advantage to 37-20 at the 3:45 mark. A 9-2 stretch gave High Point its largest cushion of the half, 46-24, with 1:15 to go. HPU took a 46-26 edge into the halftime locker room.
 
Presbyterian scored the first five points after halftime, trimming the deficit to 46-31 with 17:22 to play. That was as close as the Blue Hose got, as the Panthers answered with a 12-1 spurt, stretching the margin to 26, 58-32, with 13:48 to go.
 
Players of the Game
Hill went 6-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the foul line to top Presbyterian with 16 points. The junior grabbed a team-best six rebounds. Trevon Reddish (14) and Owen McCormack (11) were also in double-figures for the Blue Hose. Ahmil Flowers poured in a game-high 20 to pace the Panthers, while John-Michael Wright added 19. Lydell Elmore posted a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Stats of the Game
PC shot 17-of-39 (43.6 percent) from the floor, and went 3-of-10 from beyond the arc. High Point connected on 29-of-57 (50.9 percent) from the field, including 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) of its three-point tries. The Blue Hose made a season-high 20 free throws on a season-high 31 attempts (64.5 percent), while HPU went 17-of-27 (63.0 percent) from the foul line.
 
Notables
- Presbyterian set a new season high with six blocks, including two from Giancarlo Sanchez, the first two blocks of the freshman's collegiate career. McCormack equaled his career best with two blocks.
- Reddish made a career-high 10 free throws on a career-best 16 attempts. The 16 attempts tied for the third-highest total by a player in PC's DI era.
- Hill has been in double-figures in four of his five games as a Blue Hose.
