ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team was haunted by another late goal, this one coming in the first half as they fell to UNC Asheville, 3-2.

th and 83
rd minute in the loss.
FINAL SCORE: UNC Asheville 3 – Presbyterian 2
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-14-1, 0-7-1), UNC Asheville (4-10-1, 3-4-0)
LOCATION: Greenwood Soccer Field – Asheville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Presbyterian was quick to attack the Bulldogs as
Kori Lawrence had a shot, but it was saved by UNC Asheville's keeper.
Gwen Keiser had a chance just 30 seconds later, but she missed left of the net.
Caitlin Murphy had the next opportunity as her shot was blocked, but Morgan Cartee followed up with a shot that sailed wide as the Blue Hose were hungry for the opening goal. Lawrence had another chance in the 15
th minute as she was proving to be difficult for the Bulldogs in the early stages, but her shot just curled outside of the post.
Megan Serrano made her first save of the evening as she canceled out a threat from UNC Asheville's attacker. Lawrence had her third attempt of the half on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, but once again she was prevented from scoring. Just before the first half was about to come to a close, UNC Asheville was able to get one past Serrano to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman
Abby Spellings had a great chance to get Presbyterian on the board in the opening minutes of the second half, but her shot fizzled out by the time it got to the net. Just as the Blue Hose were building an attack, a counter from the Bulldogs saw them score a second goal to go up 2-0. UNC Asheville tried to put the game away with a third goal, but Serrano was able to watch a few shots go wide of her net. Presbyterian wasn't ready to go away though as
Reyna Coston found a loose ball and poked it into the back of the net to make it a one-goal game, 2-1. Keiser had a shot trying to tie the game, but the ball took a few hops before reaching the net making it an easy save, with just under 15 minutes to go. UNC Asheville was able to get their two-goal lead back with a goal in the 82
nd minute. The Blue Hose responded immediately as in the 83
rd minute, Murphy floated in a cross and Coston got her foot to it for her second goal of the game to make the score 3-2. Presbyterian did everything they could to fight for that third goal, but they came up just short as time ran out.
Coach Purcell's Thoughts
"I thought we had a really good, really smart first half. We played true to our strengths and got some good looks. We were upset that we conceded so late, but we did well to rebound in the second half and get a pair of goals. That gave us some life back as I thought we played well the rest of the match."
UP NEXT:
The Blue Hose will play their final road match of the season as they take on Radford on Saturday, October 16 at 4pm.
