Women’s Soccer Can’t Get Past High Point

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team struggled against a high-power High Point offense on Saturday night inside Martin Stadium, falling 5-0.

FINAL SCORE: High Point 5 – Presbyterian 0
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-11-1, 0-4-1), High Point (3-6-2, 3-1-0)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium

HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a slow start for Presbyterian as they conceded two early corners and High Point would capitalize, taking an early 1-0 lead. Megan Serrano was called into action a few minutes later picking up a pair of saves, and Kori Lawrence got the opening chance for the Blue Hose but dragged her shot just wide. Serrano made two more diving saves within the first 15 minutes to keep the deficit to one. The Panthers would end up doubling their lead however in the 19th minute. Presbyterian had trouble playing out from the back as High Point intercepted the ball in midfield, played it forward, and pushed their lead to 3-0. Caroline Dipzinski looked to put Presbyterian on the board late, but her shot got blocked as the first half came to a close.

As the second half kicked under way, Kelly Hall came in as the new goalkeeper for Presbyterian. Her presence was needed immediately as she had to make a save to prevent High Point from scoring again. The Panthers got one by Hall in the 58th minute to make it 4-0. The Panthers would add another in the form of a penalty kick as an aggressive Presbyterian defense tripped the attacker in the box. Hall made her third save of the night stopping a powerful shot sending it away for a corner. The Blue Hose tried to mount attacks, but the passes weren't connecting and the bounces weren't going the team's way. Presbyterian almost broke the shutout as Lauren Hendry made a great play to get to the ball, passed it to Lawrence who had the whole net to shoot at, but a High Point defender came across to clear it away from goal. The final minutes ticked away as Presbyterian fell, 5-0.

Coach Purcell's Thoughts
"High Point was the better team tonight and they deserved to win. We just have to play better, there's not much else to it."
