CLINTON, S.C. – Behind three double-figure scorers and a late third-quarter scoring run, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-3) cruised past the St. Thomas Tommies (1-3), 82-62, in their home opener at the Templeton Center.
Jade Compton led all scorers with 25 points while shooting 10-for-16 from the field.
Nyah Willis recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Maleia Bracone rounded out the double-figure scorers with 14 points.
SCORING THE GAME
- Presbyterian behind the scoring of Compton, Willis and Bracone jumped out to an early 7-0 lead.
- The Blue Hose maintained the lead for the remainder of the first quarter pushing their lead to 25-13 when Compton knocked a three with 15 seconds left in the quarter.
- With 9:20 on the second-quarter clock, Compton knocked down a jumper just outside the paint pushing Presbyterian's lead to 30-15.
- With PC leading 37-24 with 6:34 on the clock, the Tommies outscored the Blue Hose 15-2 the remainder of the first half sending the game into halftime tied at 39.
- Six seconds into the third quarter, Compton knocked down a three helping the Blue Hose regain the lead.
- St. Thomas went on a 7-2 run taking a 46-45 lead with 6:22 on the clock.
- A three by Bracone gave the Blue Hose a two-point lead at the 5:53 mark. PC pushed their lead to four points. St. Thomas answered with a 5-0 run taking a 51-50 lead with 3:42 left in the third quarter.
- Presbyterian closed the third quarter on an 11-0 run taking control of the game for good. Paige Kindseth, Compton, and Willis scored during the scoring run. Willis scored seven points during the Blue Hose's scoring run.
- In the fourth quarter, Presbyterian maintained a double-figure lead as the closest that St. Thomas would get to the Blue Hose would be 10 points with just over two minutes gone in the quarter.
- Presbyterian scored the game's final five points making the final margin of victory 20 points, 82-62.
NOTES
- Compton tallied her second consecutive 20-point scoring game with 25 points.
- Willis collected her second career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
- Bracone collected her second double-figure scoring game of the season and the 12th of her career with 14 points.
- Bracone knocked down a career-high-tying four three-point field goals.
- The Blue Hose shot 52 percent (11-for-21) from beyond the three-point arc.
