Rock Hill, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to Winthrop 19-6, on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.
Sophomore
Abby Edmisten led the Blue Hose on offense with a pair of first half goals, while senior
Sarah Marshall recorded a goal and an assist. Junior
Heidi Shafer finished with eight saves.
Final Score: Presbyterian 6, Winthrop 19

Scoring The Game
Following a scoreless first six minutes, Winthrop took a 1-0 lead but
Abby Edmisten answered with a score just 23 seconds later to tie the game. After a pair of Eagles' goals, Edmisten found the net for her second score of the afternoon to cut the lead to 3-2 with 19:33 remaining in the first half.
The Eagles went on a 9-0 scoring run over nearly the next 16 minutes before
Ana Boothe scored her first goal of the season from the free position. The Eagles scored with 30 seconds remaining in the half to take a 13-3 lead.
PC failed to take advantage of being a man-up but
Sarah Marshall scored her first goal of the year on a pass from senior
Sophie Krist to cut the lead to 13-4 with 26:30 remaining in the contest.
Winthrop answered with a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 19-4 with just 5:19 to go. The Blue ended the run when Marshall connected with
Madison Foti on pass, who was able to finish for the first goal of her sophomore campaign.
Kelly Hyman scored the game's final goal to make the score 19-6.

-Winthrop outshot PC, 31-14, and recorded more shots on goal, 27-11
-The Eagles held the advantage in draw controls, 14-12, and ground balls, 14-10.
-Winthrop went 9-10 on clear attempts while Presbyterian was just 4-6.
