Auburn Tops Blue Hose on Opening Day

Auburn, Ala. – The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome back-to-back four run frames in the sixth and seventh as the host Auburn earned a 14-3 victory on Friday night at Plainsman Park. In the fifth, senior Jake Wyandt connected on his first career home run as a Blue Hose.

NOTABLES
- Eric Toth and Ryan Ouzts each had a pair of hits to pace the Presbyterian offense, while Landon Shaw, Chris Veach and Wyandt added one apiece.
- Four players made their Blue Hose debut on Friday night in the starting lineup. Ouzts, Veach and Toth were joined by Sean Klein in the starting nine on Friday. Brandon Williams also made his PC debut on the mound.
 - In the fifth, Wyandt connected on his first home run as a Blue Hose.
- With his 5.0 innings pitched on Friday, Eric Miles moved into fifth place in innings pitched as he has totaled 253.0 innings in his Blue Hose career. Miles passed Bud Jeter for the milestone.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
 - Auburn got on the board first in the second with four runs being capped off by a two-run home run to give the Tigers the 4-0 lead.
- The Blue Hose scored on a wild pitch to cut the Tigers lead to 4-1.
- The hosts extended the lead to 6-1 with a two-run single after four frames.
- In the fifth, Wyandt connected on a two-run shot to left-center to cut the Tigers lead to three, 6-3 at the halfway point of the contest.
- Auburn pushed four runs across in the sixth and seventh to extend the lead to the final margin of 14-3.
 
 UP NEXT
 - Presbyterian and Auburn will meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the middle game of the three-game weekend series with the Tigers.
