PC Falls Victim to Radford Rally

RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team grabbed the first two sets, but Radford won the next three to come from behind and claim a 3-2 victory (17-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-10, 15-10) in the opener of the two teams' Big South Conference series on Saturday evening. Trinity Williams (15 kills, 11 digs) and Erin Cooke (18 assists, 14 digs) each recorded double-doubles for the third straight match for the Blue Hose.

Notables
- Williams' 15 kills were a season high, and came on a season-best .286 hitting percentage. She added 11 digs for her third consecutive double-double.
- Cooke also tallied her third straight double-double, equaling her season high with 18 assists and notching a new season-best 14 digs. The 14 digs were one shy of her career high. Cooke also posted a season-high five blocks.
- Sierra Jones registered her second straight double-double, collecting 21 helpers and picking up 10 digs.
- Paige Cairns equaled her career-best with 10 kills. As a freshman, Cairns set her career high with 10 kills in the first meeting of the 2019 season between the Blue Hose and Highlanders.
- Anna Hewitt eclipsed the 20-dig mark for the third straight contest, collecting 22.
- Allie Wright paced Presbyterian in both service aces (3) and total blocks (8). The eight blocks were a new season-best for the senior. She has had at least five rejections in four straight matches.
- PC edged Radford 9-8 in total blocks.
 
How it Happened
- Presbyterian came out of the gates quickly, tallying the first five points on the way to a 10-3 start. Radford closed to within four at 13-9, but a 7-2 spurt helped the Blue Hose stretch the advantage out to 20-11, and the visitors finished off the first frame from there.
- With the second set deadlocked at 3-3, PC ripped off 12 of the next 13 points to open up a 15-4 lead. Radford countered with six in a row, which started a 13-2 run that cut the Blue Hose edge to 17-15. Presbyterian responded with an 8-2 stretch to close out the set and take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
- The Highlanders raced out to a 9-2 edge to open the third frame. After trading 5-1 runs, Radford held an 18-10 advantage. The Blue Hose fought off four set points before the Highlanders sealed the set to make it 2-1.
- Holding a 7-6 edge in the fourth set, Radford created separation with a 10-1 run, which included seven in a row, to build a 17-7 lead. Another 6-0 spurt helped the Highlanders put the set away and send the contest to a decisive fifth frame.
- The hosts ran out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth set. PC battled to get within four on several occasions, but could not get any closer as the Highlanders sealed the five-set victory.
