Matos Helps PC Edge Mocs

Clinton, S.C.. – Freshman Javier Matos playing at No. 6 singles earned a three-set comeback victory to clinch the match for the Presbyterian College men's tennis team over Chattanooga by the score of 4-3 at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Sunday.

COACH COLLINS ON THE MATCH
"We knew Chattanooga was going to be a tough team and the guys came out ready to play in doubles and singles was another battle," said Presbyterian head coach John Collins. "Playing in tough matches like this is always a challenge but our guys did a great job creating momentum in those tough moments and they continued to fight for one another. Today was a very exciting day but now we need to turn our attention to a strong Furman team. Go Blue Hose!"

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presbyterian got out to a fast start with a pair of 6-0 wins at No. 1 & 3 doubles to earn the first point of the match. PC had a 4-2 lead at No. 2 doubles before the point was clinched and the match was stopped.
- Nicholas McKinney at No. 5 singles pushed PC's lead out to 2-0 with a straight-set win before Daniel Stenger competing at No. 4 singles got the Blue Hose advantage out to 3-0.
- Chattanooga got on the board with wins at No. 1 and 3 singles to cut the Blue Hose lead down to 3-2.
- Javier Matos was able to clinch the match for the Blue Hose with a three-set comeback victory at No.6 singles to earn the Blue Hose the match on Sunday.
- The Mocs earned the win at No. 2 singles to get it to a 4-3 final.
 
NOTABLES
- Matos and McKinney improved to 2-0 in singles action.
- Babic and Benson at No.1 doubles also pushed their records out to 2-0.
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose return to the court for a mid-week match against Furman on Wednesday. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
