How it Happened
- High Point raced out to a quick 5-2 edge in the first set, but PC tallied the next three points to knot the score at 5-5. The Panthers regained a three-point advantage at 9-6 before a 7-2 Presbyterian answer put the Blue Hose on top 13-11. HPU then notched 11 of the next 13 points to go in front 22-15, and held on from there to take the first set.
- With the second set even at 5-5, PC ripped off a 6-1 spurt to take an 11-6 edge and force an HPU timeout. The Panthers tallied the first three points out of the timeout, but the Blue Hose answered with the next four, including back-to-back service aces by Jones, to make it 15-9. Seven of the ensuing nine points went the way of the visitors to close PC's edge to 17-16. After High Point got within one again at 18-17, three straight Presbyterian points helped to put the second set away and even the contest at one set apiece heading into the intermission.
- The Panthers came out of the break fast, jumping ahead 9-2 in the third set. Presbyterian could not get any closer than five, as the visitors took a 2-1 edge in the contest.
- In the fourth set, HPU broke a 9-9 tie with four in a row to open up a 13-9 advantage. The Blue Hose drew within three on a pair of occasions, but the Panthers registered five of the final six points to seal the set and the match.
