Last Time Out...

The Blue Hose returned from a 16-day hiatus on Tuesday and split a doubleheader against South Carolina State at the PC Softball Complex. The opener remained scoreless until a seven-run fourth, which helped SC State take game one, 8-0. Presbyterian bounced back in game two, scoring a run in the second and another in the third for a 2-0 edge. SCSU pulled one back in the fifth, but a Kiley Kross solo homer to lead off the sixth helped the Blue Hose seal the 3-1 victory. Haley Haselden got the starting nod in the circle in both contests for PC, and she racked up a total of 13 strikeouts in 10.1 innings. She equaled her career-best with eight punchouts in game one, then came back to toss her first seven-inning complete game of the season to earn the victory in game two.

The Opponents...

Tournament host Mercer enters the weekend at 7-8, having split its four games last weekend. The Bears are slated to play Winthrop twice and North Dakota this weekend before meeting up with the Blue Hose on Saturday afternoon. The two teams split last year's meetings, with Presbyterian winning 4-0 down in Madeira Beach, Fla., and the Bears taking a 4-2 decision in Macon. Western Carolina arrives in Macon at 3-11, having dropped both ends of a high-scoring doubleheader at fellow Big South foe Radford last weekend. The Blue Hose and Catamounts had been scheduled to meet in Clinton earlier this month, but that twin bill has been postponed until April 14. PC and WCU are meeting for the first time since splitting a doubleheader in Clinton in 2019.
