PC Falls in Non-Conference Match to Marshall

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon by the score of 5-2 against Marshall in a match played at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte. Juniors Jessica Leeman and Zeba Jamal both earned victories in singles action in Sunday's defeat.

COACH ROBERTS ON THE MATCH
 "It was a really hard fought battle today," commented head coach Joel Roberts. "Marshall played very well and they were tough in the big moments. The team battled to the end and we had our chances. We look forward to having some practice time to get ready for our next one against Radford ."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marshall got off to the early lead with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles which was followed up by a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to earn the doubles point.
- The Thundering Herd also won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles as well.
- The Blue Hose evened the match up at one with Jessica Leeman at No. 3 singles earning a three-set comeback win which included a  6-0 third set win.
- Marshall regained the lead with a three-set win at No. 4 singles.
- Zeba Jamal, playing at No. 1 singles earned a straight-set victory to even the match up at two apiece.
- Marshall regained the lead once again at the No. 6 singles position with a straight-set victory. The Thundering Herd clinched the match at No. 5 singles with a three-set win.
- Marshall added a win at No. 2 singles to earn the 5-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.
 
NOTABLES
- Leeman earned her third straight singles win and is 6-5 overall in singles action in 2021.
 
UP NEXT
- Presbyterian was slated to face Georgia Southern on Tuesday afternoon from the Templeton Tennis Courts but the match with the Eagles has been postponed due to expected weather in Clinton. PC will next be on the courts on Tuesday, March 23 at 1 p.m. as the Blue Hose travel up to Radford in Big South play. The Blue Hose are 2-0 and atop the conference standings so far this spring.
