Notes

Last Time Out...
PC dropped a pair its last time out, falling to Mercer 3-1 and Western Carolina 7-2 at the Mercer Bears Classic in Macon, Ga., last Saturday. Rebecca Clark paced the Blue Hose offensively, going 3-for-6 for the day and driving in a run in both contests. Against WCU, the sophomore collected her first multi-hit game of the season, which included the first home run of her collegiate career.

The Wait is Finally Over...
Presbyterian opens Big South Conference play with this weekend's series against USC Upstate. The Blue Hose were 16-8 heading into conference play last year, and were set to host Upstate for a three-game series in Clinton to begin league play before the season was halted and eventually canceled due to COVID-19. Saturday's twin bill will end a 692-day gap between Big South contests for the Blue Hose, whose last conference game was the final game of the 2019 season, April 28, 2019 against Longwood.

Scouting the Spartans...
USC Upstate enters the weekend having won five in a row, including a three-game sweep at Charleston Southern last weekend to open Big South Conference play. The Spartans boast the top offense in the conference thus far in 2021, as they're hitting .304 collectively and averaging a league-leading 6.2 runs per contest (PC is second, scoring 4.6 runs/game). Four of Upstate's starters are hitting .333 or higher this season, with Marisa Soterakis' .395 average, fourth-highest in the league, leading the way. On the pitching side, Upstate owns the second-lowest ERA in the conference at 2.81, with Presbyterian atop the Big South with a 2.24 ERA.

Quick Hits...
- The Blue Hose enter the weekend 3-8 in Big South openers.
- PC opened the 2019 league slate against Upstate as well, with the Spartans sweeping a three-game set in Spartanburg.
- Sara Shaw made her collegiate debut last week and tossed the first complete game of her college career against WCU.
