Cooke Surpasses 1000 Assists in Defeat at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Presbyterian College junior Erin Cooke surpassed 1000 career assists on Thursday evening as the Blue Hose fell 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-14, 25-14) at Winthrop to open the teams' Big South Conference series.

Notables
- Cooke had a team-high 16 assists on the evening and became the seventh Blue Hose in the program's DI era (since 2007) to surpass 1000 career helpers.
- The junior also tallied 10 digs to record her ninth double-double of the season. Cooke's nine kills led the Blue Hose for the evening.
- Sierra Jones handed out 12 assists and added 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the campaign.
- Anna Hewitt registered a team-high 19 digs on the evening.
- Abby Sparkman notched a career-high 10 digs.
- Hannah Chapman equaled her career-best with five kills on a blistering .714 hitting percentage.
- Hailey Grocholski also tied her career high in kills, chipping in four.
 
How it Happened
- Presbyterian began the evening with a 6-2 start, but Winthrop battled back to even the first set at 7-7. With the frame even at 11-11, the Blue Hose tallied four in a row to regain the advantage at 15-11. Four straight from the Eagles helped the hosts close the gap back to one, 18-17. With PC on top, 21-19, Winthrop notched another four in a row as part of a 6-1 surge which gave the opening set to the Eagles.
- Down 6-3 early in the second frame, PC rattled off seven straight points to take a 10-6 lead. The Blue Hose kept WU at arm's length for the remainder of the set, and evened the contest at 1-1 heading into the break.
- With the third set deadlocked at 6-6, Winthrop went on a 7-1 run to open up a 13-7 advantage. Presbyterian got back within five, 18-13, but the Eagles closed the frame with another 7-1 surge to take a 2-1 edge in the match.
- In the fourth set, the two teams were even at 7-7 until a 5-0 Winthrop run put the Eagles ahead 12-7. A 6-1 WU spurt upped the margin to 18-9, and PC drew no closer than eight for the remainder of the set.
