Lacey Leads Blue Hose in Defeat to Wofford

CLINTON, S.C. – Junior Beth Lacey earned victories in both her singles and doubles matches on Thursday as the Presbyterian College women's tennis team was defeated by Wofford by the score of 5-2 at the Templeton Tennis Courts.

"It was a really good fight from the team this afternoon," said Presbyterian head coach Joel Roberts. "I know that's the capability of this team so I hope we continue to build momentum into conference play this weekend against Longwood."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC got out to a quick start with a doubles win at No. 2 doubles by Alexa Wilson and Samantha Calais by the score of 6-1. The Blue Hose earned the doubles point with a 6-2 win with Jessica Leeman and Lucianna Piedra earning a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
- Presbyterian's top pair of Zeba Jamal and Beth Lacey grabbed a 7-2 win in a tiebreak to sweep the doubles matches for the Blue Hose.
- Wofford got on the board at No. 4 singles with a straight-set victory.
- PC pushed the lead back out to a 2-1 advantage with Lacey's win at No. 6 singles.
- The Terriers needed a tiebreak in the opening set but pulled away at No. 1 singles for the straight set victory and a 2-2 match overall.
- The guests used a late rally in three sets at No. 2 singles to take the lead in the match 3-2.
- Wofford used a three-set win at No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
- The Terriers added a three-set win at No. 5 singles to give the match its final 5-2 margin on Thursday afternoon.
 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose hit the road to begin Big South play on Saturday morning with an 11 a.m. serve against Longwood.
