Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Longwood in League Opener

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team opened its Big South Conference schedule with a 7-0 blanking of Longwood on Saturday afternoon.

 "It was a great effort from the team this afternoon," commented head coach Joel Roberts. "We came out ready to go in doubles and kept battling in singles. It was a really good team win and it feels great to start conference play with a victory."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC got a 6-2 win from Jessica Leeman and Lucianna Piedra at No. 3 doubles to open the contest. After the Lancers won at No. 2, the top doubles duo of Beth Lacey and Zeba Jamal won 6-3 to give the Blue Hose the doubles point.
- Piedra earned a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to make it 2-0 Presbyterian, and Lacey dispatched her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to make it 3-0.
- Leeman sealed the victory for the Blue Hose with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot.
- Samantha Calais stretched the PC advantage to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position.
- After dropping the first set, Jamal rallied to win at No. 1 singles in three sets, and Alexa Wilson then completed the shutout victory for Presbyterian with a three-set win at No. 4.

- Jamal, Lacey, Leeman and Piedra each went 2-0 for the afternoon.
- Lacey, Piedra and Wilson each notched the first Big South singles wins of their careers.
- Jamal, Lacey and Piedra each collected their first Big South doubles wins of their careers.
