How it Happened
- UNC Asheville got out to a 9-3 start in the first set, thanks in part to an early 4-0 run. Leading 14-8, the Bulldogs used a 5-1 surge to up their advantage to 19-9. PC got back to within 21-15, but Asheville stopped the rally and claimed the opening frame.
- Even at 5-5 in the second frame, Presbyterian notched four of the next five points to take a 9-6 edge. The Bulldogs pulled to within one on multiple occasions, including 18-17, but PC tallied three straight points to build the cushion back to 21-17. With the Blue Hose in front 23-19, Asheville used a 5-1 spurt to tie the score at 24-24. Williams notched a kill for PC to get it to set point, and the Blue Hose took advantage of an error to claim the second set and head into the break even at one apiece.
- An early 4-1 UNC Asheville edge in the third set was quickly erased by the Blue Hose, who drew level at 5-5. The two squads stayed within two points of one another until the Bulldogs broke a 14-14 deadlock with a 5-1 surge to grab a 19-15 lead. PC countered with a 6-2 run to get the frame even again at 21-21, but Asheville responded with four of the last five to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
- The Blue Hose never trailed in the fourth set, and a 5-1 stretch early in the frame helped Presbyterian get out to a 10-6 start. Asheville drew even on several occasions, the last of which came at 17-17. The Blue Hose then broke away with a 5-0 surge to go up 22-17, and put the set away from there to send the match to a decisive fifth frame.
- Asheville raced out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth. Presbyterian responded with five straight points, three of which came on kills by Cydni Miller. With the Bulldogs on top 9-8, they put together a final 6-1 surge to claim the set and the match victory.
