Blue Hose Open Homestand on Wednesday Against WCU

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College softball team opens up a five-game homestand on Wednesday as it welcomes Western Carolina to town for a doubleheader.

Last Time Out...
Presbyterian returns home after falling in three low-scoring affairs at Winthrop over the weekend. In the series opener, Jaiden Tweed got PC off to a good start, homering to center field two batters into the contest to give the Blue Hose an early 1-0 edge. Winthrop tied it in the third, then hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-1. The Eagles held Presbyterian off of the scoreboard in each of the final two games of the series, taking the final two contests by scores of 3-0 and 2-0.
 
Home Sweet Home...
Following their six-game road trip, Presbyterian returns to Clinton for a five-game homestand this week, starting with Wednesday's twin bill against Western Carolina. This weekend, PC hosts its second Big South Conference series, as Longwood comes to town for a three-game set. The Blue Hose are 6-2 at home in 2021.
 
Pitching Leading the Way...
The Blue Hose yielded eight runs in their three-game weekend set at Winthrop, extending their streak of allowing three runs or fewer to six games in a row. Presbyterian enters the week second in the Big South in team ERA at 2.65, and leads the conference in both opponents' batting average (.208) and strikeout rate (7.18/7). The starting duo of Haley Haselden and Jenna Greene has led the way for the PC staff, with Haselden ranking second in the conference with a 2.32 ERA and Greene sitting in fourth with a 2.72 ERA. The duo also boasts the top two opponents' batting averages in the league, with Greene at .194 and Haselden at .199.
                                           
Scouting the Catamounts...
Western Carolina arrives in Clinton having won 11 straight, including a three-game sweep of ETSU over the weekend. Reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week Bailey Huneycutt is hitting a league-leading .402 and is pacing WCU in hits (35), runs (24), home runs (8), walks (20), on-base percentage (.519) and slugging percentage (.736). Righty Savannah Rice was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for a Western Carolina staff which is second in the conference with a 3.57 ERA. The Catamounts are 7-2 against Big South foes this season, including a 7-2 win over the Blue Hose in Macon, Ga., back on March 13.
