Toth's Big Day Leads PC in 6-1 Win

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Eric Toth connected on his team-high third home run in the seventh inning and drove in three runs on the afternoon as the Presbyterian College baseball team picked up a 6-1 victory over UNC Asheville at Greenwood Baseball Field on Friday afternoon. Toth went 4-for-4 with his home run and three RBI's along with two runs scored, while Charlie McDaniel improved to 2-0 with seven innings of one-run baseball.

NOTABLES
- Toth had a perfect day at the plate on Friday with a four-hit day, the most by a Blue Hose in a game this season. He also connected on his third home run of the spring in the seventh inning.
- Sean Klein, Ryan Ouzts, Jake Wyandt, Kyle Decker, and Brody Fahr each tallied hits as Wyandt connected on his fourth double of the season.
- With his four hits, Toth becomes the first Blue Hose since Nick Guimbarda and Jimmy Marcelli to pick up four hits in a game. Guimbarda and Marcelli had four hits apiece against Gardner-Webb on March 24, 2019. 
- McDaniel picked up his second straight win tossing 7.0 innings and allowing just one run to improve to 2-0 on the year. He picked up a pair of strikeouts and only walked one Bulldog. 
- Alex Flood pitched the final two innings scattering one hit and one walk to go along with a strikeout.
- With the win, PC improves to 4-1 in series openers this season as the Blue Hose have won their last four opening games in a series. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- PC got on the board first in the second inning as Toth came in to score on a Bulldog wild pitch before Decker picked up an RBI single to give the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead thru 1.5 innings.
- In the third, Toth added an RBI single to extend the PC lead to 3-0. 
- PC extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with an RBI single by Brody Fahr.
- Asheville got on the board in the sixth as the Bulldogs tallied a run on a double play turned by the Blue Hose to make it 4-1 thru six frames. 
- Toth extended the PC lead again in the seventh with a two-run home run to give the Blue Hose a 6-1 lead that they would not relinquish to pick up the game one win. 
  
UP NEXT
- PC and Asheville will play a doubleheader on Saturday to wrap up the series with first pitch for the twin bill set for 1 p.m. Both games tomorrow will be broadcast on ESPN+.
