Blue Hose Lacrosse Holds Off Lancer Rally

Farmville, Va. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team picked up a 12-11 road win over Longwood on Saturday afternoon at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field. Trailing by one, the Lancers had three shots in the final 30 seconds miss the net including one that struck post. Kelly Hyman and Abby Edmisten led the Blue Hose with four goals apiece in the Big South victory.

Scoring The Game
Two early goals from Edmisten and one from Hyman gave PC a 3-1 lead over Longwood with 23:34 left in the first half. After trading goals, it was Edmisten's third of the day that gave PC a three-goal lead, 6-3, at 13:35. The Lancers rallied with four unanswered goals in four minutes to take a 7-6 lead with 6:58 to play. Freshman Kylie Sullivan scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game at 7-7 less than a minute later, and late goals from Hyman and Edmisten gave PC a 9-7 lead at halftime.

The second half saw less offense, but just as much excitement. Longwood again fought back to tie the game at 9-9 with a goal from Emma Johnson at 20:07 being the tying tally. A three-goal run by PC over a four-minute span proved to be the difference in the game. Hyman scored her fourth of the game at 13:04 with an assist from Ana Boothe to give PC a 10-9 lead. Goals from Sarah Marshall, at 12:06, and Madison Berg, at 9:50, gave PC a three-goal lead that the Lancers would not overcome. Trailing by one, Longwood's leading scorer on the season, Taylor Blenkstone, hit post with 32 seconds remaining, and Jade O'Connor's free position shot went wide at 0:20 as PC outlasted the Lancers, 12-11.

Sarah Marshall (2g, 1a) extended her goal streak to 25 games and point streak to 30 games.
Sarah Marshall moved into a 4th place tie in PC's record books with 113 points (84g, 29a). Her 84 goals also ranks 4th with third place (86 goals) just two goals away.
Abby Edmisten (4g) moved her season total to 23 points (20g, 3a) which is a collegiate-best for the sophomore.
In a series that dates back to 2008, Presbyterian picked up their first win over Longwood after entering the game 0-12.
