Blue Hose Fall Late to Bucs

CHARLESTON, S.C. – After an 88-minute weather delay, Charleston Southern used a two-run double from Tyrell Brewer to rally past the Presbyterian College baseball team 9-8 on Tuesday night at Nielsen Field inside the CSU Ballpark. Zacchaeus Rasberry connected on his sixth home run of the season in the setback.

NOTABLES
- Kyle Merkle joined Rasberry with a pair of hits to lead the Blue Hose offense on Tuesday. Rasberry connected on his sixth home run of the season which tied the team-high.
- Rasberry also extended his reached base streak to a season-high 13 straight games. He has hits in each of his last five contests as well. 
- Brody Fahr extended his reached base streak to a season-high 12 games with a walk.
- Senior Brandon Williams went 2.0 scoreless inning of relief which was the third time this season he had gone 2.0+ innings and not allowed a run in his appearance.
- Senior Reagan Fowler made his season debut on Tuesday.
- With his stolen base tonight, Rasberry moved into a tie for eighth in the school's modern era record book with 38 steals. Rasberry's next steal will move him into a tie for seventh with head coach Elton Pollock in the record book.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Charleston Southern got on the board early with four runs capped off by a two-run homer to take the 4-0 lead. 
- Rasberry scored in the second on a Bucs wild pitch to cut the CSU lead down to 4-1.
- PC added two runs in the third to cut the Charleston Southern lead to one, 4-3.
- In the fifth, CSU added a run via a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-3. 
- Rasberry evened the game at five in the sixth with a two-run home run. 
- In the same inning, Wyandt untied the game for the Blue Hose with a sacrifice fly to give PC the 6-5 lead. 
- PC added runs in the seventh off of a Kyle Merkle RBI single which was followed up by a Noah Lebron sac fly to make it 8-5 after 6.5 innings.
- CSU plated two runs in its half of the seventh to cut it back to a one-run game at 8-7. 
- Coming out of the 88-minute weather delay, CSU jumped on the attack quickly in the bottom of the ninth and finished the comeback with a two-run double to earn the walk-off win. 

UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose head to High Point for a three-game series beginning on Friday night against the Panthers with first pitch set for 6 p.m… The two teams wrap up the three-game set on Saturday with a twin bill at 2 p.m… PC's series with Winthrop has had the start times adjusted as the two teams will open the series on Thursday, May 20 at 3 p.m. before a doubleheader on Friday, May 21 at noon to close out the 2021 regular season.
