Blue Hose Use Early Home Runs to Take 11-4 Series-Opening Victory

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Zacchaeus Rasberry and Eric Toth each connected on home runs to help lead the Presbyterian College Baseball team to an 11-4 series-opening victory on Friday night at Williard Stadium.

NOTABLES
- Rasberry opened the game with his team-high seventh home run of the season to get the Blue Hose out to an early lead.
- With the home run, Rasberry tied Nate Chong for ninth in the Blue Hose DI record book for career home runs with 14.
- Toth connected on his sixth home run of the year in the third which was his second three-run home run of the 2021 season. He is one of two Blue Hose to have a 3-run homer this season. 
- Rasberry along with Brody Fahr led the offensive attack with three hits apiece as Kyle Decker added two hits in the contest. 
- Rasberry now has 2+ hits in 13 games which are a team-high, while Fahr now has multiple hits in nine contests. Rasberry extended his reached base streak to a season-high 14 and Fahr now has reached base safely in 13 consecutive contests. 
- Toth's three-run home run moved him into a tie for the team lead with seven multiple-RBI contests. 
- PC improved to 7-3 in series openers this season as it was its first win in a series opener since taking game one from Campbell on April 23 by the score of 7-6. 
- The Blue Hose improve improved to 4-1 on Friday night when scoring 10+ runs this year. 
- Jeremiah Boyd recorded his first two career stolen bases in the victory. It's the fourth time this season a Blue Hose had two steals in a game and the first since David Sweat did it against Campbell on April 25. 
- Senior Brandon Williams went a season-high 4.0 innings in relief on Friday allowing two runs and picking up one strikeout to earn his second win of the season.
- With his start, Eric Miles tied Colton Spring for fifth in the program's DI record book with his 70th career appearance as a Blue Hose on the mound. 
- Friday's victory is the first for PC at High Point since April 15, 2012, breaking a six-game slide for the Blue Hose at HPU. 
- PC recorded three double plays for the second time this season matching a season-high. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- For the second straight game, Rasberry began the contest for PC with a solo home run to get the Blue Hose a 1-0 lead.
- Presbyterian extended the lead in the third with a three-run homer from Toth before an RBI single off the bat of Decker gave the Blue Hose a 5-0 lead through three innings.
- The Blue Hose kept the pressure on High Point in the fourth as they scored four more times in the frame taking advantage of a hit by a pitch which was followed up by a sacrifice fly before an HPU error and wild pitch allowed two more runs to score in the frame. 
- High Point got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. 
- HPU tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to six at 9-3. 
- PC pushed a run across in the eighth when the Blue Hose took advantage of a High Point passed ball to extend the lead to 10-3. 
- Decker added an RBI double in the ninth before the Panthers added one in their half of the ninth but Presbyterian was able to secure the 11-4 series opener.

- The two teams conclude their three-game set with a twin bill on Saturday afternoon as first pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Williard Stadium. Both games on Saturday will be shown on ESPN+.
