HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a slow start as both teams battled for possession throughout the field. A foul by Presbyterian allowed Alabama State a free-kick, but nothing came of it. The Blue Hose then found themselves with a free-kick and moments after the kick,
Kori Lawrence fought her defender off the ball, took three dribbles into the box, and slotted it by the keeper. Presbyterian continued to press after the goal as the Hornets' goalkeeper had to come up with three saves to keep it a 1-0 game.
Megan Serrano was tested once as she tipped a ball onto the post to prevent Alabama State from tying the game.
The second half began with a quick corner for Alabama State, but Presbyterian was able to clear the danger. Lawrence went for her second just moments later, but her shot sailed over the net.
Reyna Coston then had an opportunity, but her shot took a bounce and an easy save was made by the Hornets' goalkeeper. The Blue Hose kept firing away as they pushed for a second goal with 20 minutes remaining. Alabama State had to press with under 10 minutes to go, but Presbyterian's defense held strong as they came away with a 1-0 win.
