Blue Hose Drop Season Opener at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-21) to Georgia Southern on Friday evening at the Bash in the Boro in Statesboro, Ga.

Notables
- Erin Cooke came within two kills of recording the seventh triple-double of her collegiate career. The senior paced Presbyterian in kills (8) and assists (12), while chipping in 10 digs.
- Allie Wright was right behind Cooke with seven kills on a .312 hitting percentage.
- In her collegiate debut, Kinsey Bailey handed out 10 assists and served up a pair of aces.
- Anna Hewitt registered a match-high 17 digs.
- Hailey Grocholski topped the Blue Hose with three blocks, including a pair of solo rejections.
- Rylee Moorhead earned a start in her collegiate debut. The true freshman notched four kills and four digs.
 
How it Happened
- Georgia Southern tallied the first four points of the evening on its way to an 8-2 start. After Presbyterian got to within 8-4, the Eagles rattled off eight of the next nine to stretch their lead to 16-5. A 6-0 GSU run later in the frame put the set beyond reach.
- PC jumped ahead 3-1 in the early stages of the second set, but the Eagles responded with four of the next five to grab the edge, then used a four-point surge to open up a 9-5 advantage. With Georgia Southern in front 13-10, the hosts went on a 7-2 run, pushing the margin to 20-12. The Blue Hose countered with five of the next six points, cutting the deficit to 21-17. The Eagles took the next three to reach set point, and after Presbyterian fought off a pair of set points, GSU put the second set away for a 2-0 edge in the contest.
- The Eagles raced out to a 12-3 lead in the third frame, but an 8-2 Presbyterian response got the Blue Hose back within three, 14-11. GSU held an edge of between three and five points until three in a row by Presbyterian cut the margin to two, 22-20. Georgia Southern staved off the rally, notching three of the final four points of the evening to seal the victory.

The Blue Hose conclude play at the Bash in the Boro on Saturday with matches against Bethune-Cookman at 10 am and Coppin State at 4 pm.
