Jessica Newton, but in the end fell to Jacksonville, 4-1.
FINAL SCORE: 4-1 Jacksonville
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-3), Jacksonville (3-1)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a fast start for both teams as Jacksonville had a headed attempt from a corner that went over the net. Presbyterian had the chance next as
Kori Lawrence fired a shot from 20 yards out, but it sailed wide of the net.
Sarah Dieffenderfer had the next shot as she broke in on net, but she didn't get much on the shot as it was saved easily. The Dolphins were able to break open the scoring as a corner was not fully cleared by the Blue Hose, and it was tapped in by Selma Fohrer. It didn't take long for Jacksonville to double their lead as they scored two minutes later to make it 2-0. The Blue Hose answered moments later as
Jessica Newton stole the ball in the offensive half and chipped it over the keeper to make it a 2-1 game. The Blue Hose and Dolphins continued to press on as an eventful first half came to an end.
Jacksonville opened the second half with pressure and it paid off as they doubled their lead once again in the 51
st minute via a penalty. Presbyterian had two chances to respond with Dieffenderfer and Lawrence, but neither could find the back of the net.
Reyna Coston had a chance in the 60
th minute, but her shot was blocked and cleared from any danger as Presbyterian tried to get themselves back in the game. Lawrence had a free-kick shot from just outside the box that was saved as the Blue Hose looked like they were getting back into the match, but the Dolphins came back in the 75
th minute and put a fourth goal in the net. The Blue Hose shouted for a penalty in the 80
th minute, but the ref did not give it as time ran out for Presbyterian.
