Blue Hose Host Fort Lauderdale on Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team returns to the field on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as the Blue Hose welcome in Fort Lauderdale to Bailey Memorial Stadium. The game with the Eagles will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can also be heard on WSPG in Spartanburg and WPCX on campus in Clinton.

Last Time Out
• Redshirt sophomore quarterback Ren Hefley threw for 576 yards and an FCS single-game record 10 touchdowns as the Presbyterian College football team opened the Kevin Kelley era with an 84-43 victory over St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium.
• Hefley opened his Blue Hose career with a PC DI record 10 touchdowns totaling 576 yards. He added a Blue Hose DI record 38 completions on the afternoon.
• Hefley finished second in the Presbyterian DI record book with 576 passing yards as he was second only to Tim Webb who totaled 648 during a 2007 game against North Greenville.Hefley also set an FCS record with his 10 passing scores.

• Fort Lauderdale begins its first season on Saturday after having its first two games canceled due to COVID-19
• The Eagles are led by former NFL player Chris Chambers who was announced as the teams head coach in June
 
Airing it Out
• Hefley led the Blue Hose offensive attack with 576 passing yards against Fort Lauderdale which netted him the PFL Offensive Player of the Week honors. He also totaled a PC DI record 10 passing scores.
Tyler Huff added eight-of-10 for 73 yards and a pair of scores as well. Gabe Carroll also had four completions for 20 yards.
 
Hefley Honors
• Redshirt Sophomore quarterback Ren Hefley has been named the Pioneer Football League's offensive player of the week as announced by the league on Sunday.
• Hefley set an FCS record with 10 passing touchdowns in Presbyterian's 84-43 victory over St. Andrews on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Hefley led the Blue Hose offense with a PC DI record of 38 completions that accounted for 538 yards passing and 10 touchdowns on Saturday afternoon against St. Andrews. The redshirt sophomore spread the passing scores around to eight different Blue Hose.
 
Receivers Racking Up the Yards
• The Blue Hose had 21 different players record a catch on Saturday against St. Andrews led by Jalyn Witcher with 5 receptions for 156 yards and he tied a Presbyterian DI record with three touchdown catches.
Matthew Rivera totaled a team-high eight receptions for 137 yards and two scores.
Ren Hefley's 10 touchdowns were spread around to eight different pass catchers on Saturday.
 
Record Breaking Debut
• In Kevin Kelley's debut the Presbyterian College offense lit up the scoreboard in record breaking fashion. Ren Hefley totaled a DI School record 39 pass completions for 576 yards which ranks second in the same record book. 
• Hefley also totaled a DI school record 10 passing scores with three of those going to freshman Jalyn Witcher who tied a single-game DI record.
• Witcher's 156 yards receiving ranked fourth in the DI single-game record book.
• As a team, Presbyterian totaled a DI record 51 completions, 669 passing yards, 10 passing scores, 94 total offensive plays and 814 total offensive yards.
 
Kelley Set to Lead the Blue Hose
• After coaching Pulaski Academy to nine state titles and totaling 200 wins in 18 seasons, Kevin Kelley is set to lead the Blue Hose beginning in the fall of 2021.
• Kelley was the offensive coordinator for six years at Pulaski before being named head coach of the Bruins.
• Under his tutelage, Kelley's players and teams have broken 15 national high school football records while compiling a 216-29-1 mark.
• Kelley approches the game of football differently, as documented by media outlets such as ESPN, HBO Real Sports and Fox Business News. His philosophy and tactics have been featured in articles in several publications such as the New York Times and Sports Illustrated, as well as in the book "Sportscasting."
 
Hoseville on the Hill
• Hoseville is now on the Hill this fall at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Be sure to bring a couch, a tent and drinks and join us on the hill all fall for Blue Hose home football games.
 
Blue Hose Tabbed Fifth in PFL Poll
• Presbyterian College was selected to finish fifth in the Pioneer Football League preseason poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
• The Blue Hose earned 59 points, under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Kelley. Presbyterian embarks on its first full season in the PFL after playing a six-game schedule during the 2021 spring season.
• Davidson received eight first place votes and 97 points to finish as the preseason favorite. The Wildcats enter the fall as the defending PFL champions after advancing to the FCS playoffs this past spring. San Diego earned three first place votes and 93 total points to rank second.
• Drake earned 67 points and was voted third, while Dayton rounds out the top four earning 62 points. Following the Blue Hose, Valparaiso (55 points) and Morehead State (51) rank sixth and seventh in the preseason coaches poll.
• St. Thomas was picked to finish eighth (36 points) in its first PFL season. Marist and Stetson followed in a tie for ninth place (35 points each) with Butler (15) rounding out the 11-team poll.
