CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team had to wait until the 73
rd minute to find their goal as it was
Cesar Sancho who flew through the air to get his head on it and send it into the bottom corner.
FINAL SCORE: 1-0 Presbyterian
RECORDS: Presbyterian (3-1-1), Jacksonville (1-3)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a quick start from Jacksonville as they earned a corner in the 2
nd minute, but
Aidan Montoure came up big with an early save. Presbyterian came back as
Voro Rivera Peris made a run into the box, but he shot skidded wide left. The Dolphins threatened with a corner again, but this time the headed shot went over the net.
Ndrin Maloku got a chance 10 minutes in, but he was quickly put under pressure by the defender and couldn't get a good shot away. Jacksonville came back on the counter-attack and hit the post in the 23
rd minute. The Blue Hose hit a post of their own as
Nacho Gallego fired a shot from 10 yards out, but rang it off the bar.
Marco Filous had the final chance of the half as he sent a long range effort towards goal, but the keeper pushed it away for a corner as the half came to an end.
The Blue Hose came out quick to restart play as Rivera Peris had a chance, but his attempt hit the post. Jacksonville came back with two shots of their own, but Montoure had no worries as both went wide of frame.
Nacho Gallego had a pair of shots as one was blocked and the other was handled by the goalkeeper. After a shot by
Luke Gladden that resulted in a corner,
Cesar Sancho rose above everyone else to get his head on it and knock it into the bottom corner to give Presbyterian the 1-0 lead. As expected, the Dolphins came back with some pressure, but Sancho and the rest of the Blue Hose backline defended well as Montoure never had any troubles and Presbyterian saw out the game.
