CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team extended their win streak to four games and their unbeaten streak to five games after a 2-1 victory in overtime, over Wofford on Tuesday night.
Nacho Gallego scored the opening goal in the 62
nd minute and
Cesar Sancho put the game away scoring in the 93
rd minute.
FINAL SCORE: 2-1 Presbyterian
RECORDS: Presbyterian (4-1-1), Wofford (2-3)
LOCATION: Martin Stadium
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a slow start for both team as they tried to feel out each other's play style. Wofford looked to play down the wing, which Presbyterian shut down quickly. On the flip side, the Blue Hose have tried to go over-the-top, but the Terriers have fended that off.
Niklas Hoener had the first shot towards goal, but it went wide of the net. Hoener attempted another shot on a free-kick, but once again his shot sailed wide of the post.
Luke Gladden had the last chance of the half as he found the ball from a corner, tried a bicycle kick, but he didn't connect well with the ball as it went over the bar.
The Blue Hose looked to press to begin the second half as
Ndrin Maloku had a free-kick shot blocked from 20 yards out. Maloku had another chance minutes later, but he had a miss-hit off his left foot.
Aidan Montoure made a save in the 61
st minute and then Presbyterian came right down the field and scored. A long ball from
Connor Hudson found the feet of
Nacho Gallego who fought off a defender and scored with the outside of his right foot. Wofford was quick to respond as they punched in a ball that was bumbling in the box to tie the game, 1-1. The Terriers looked to have some momentum after that goal, but both teams traded attempts off target as they headed to overtime.
Wofford had an early attempt in the overtime period, but Montoure was ready for the task as he made the save. With the Blue Hose putting on some pressure, they forced a corner in the 93
rd minute.
Niklas Hoener took the corner and
Cesar Sancho, as he did the other night, went higher than everyone else and powered the header into the net to give Presbyterian the 2-1 win, and extend their win streak to four games.
