FINAL SCORE: Georgia State 6 – Presbyterian 2
RECORDS: Presbyterian (1-7), Georgia State (5-2-1)
LOCATION: Atlanta, Ga.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Presbyterian looked to make a statement in the opening minute as
Kori Lawrence took a shot, but it was deflected and went out for a corner. Georgia State came back down the field and
Megan Serrano had to make a pair of saves in the opening five minutes. Serrano had to stay aware has the Panthers took aim at net, but nothing else that made its way on target. The Blue Hose defense had to be strong again as two blocked shots and another save from Serrano held the game scoreless. However, the Panthers would go on to get the game's opening goal in the 33
rd minute. Ten minutes later the Panthers would score a second, but
Kori Lawrence scored immediately from the restart as she made it 2-1 right before halftime.
Presbyterian looked to even the score quickly as
Jessica Newton took a shot, but it was blocked and went out for a corner.
Kelly Hall replaced
Megan Serrano for the second half as she saw two shots sail wide of the net early on. Lawrence was in search of her second goal as she fired on at the net but couldn't find twine. The Panthers were able to find the back of the net, not once but twice, as they went up 4-1 in the 63
rd minute. Just minutes later the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick, but Hall came up large with the save to prevent any further damage. The Blue Hose pushed back as
Sarah Dieffenderfer and
Sophia Thomson got shots away, but neither were able to go in. Georgia State would add goals in the 82
nd and 89
th minute and Presbyterian would get one by way of
Lauren Hendry in the 90
th minute, as the Blue Hose would fall 6-2.
